Founded in 1852 the French Protestant Historical Society is one of the oldest learned societies in France -The State Council declared it a public service on 13 July 1870. Its aim is to gather, preserve and publish documents about the history of French Protestantism, but also to develop research in the field.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To ensure the double, patrimonial and scientific, mission<\/b>, the SHPF has kept a large library in the centre of Paris at 54 rue des Saints P\u00e8res, since 1885. It publishes a quarterly magazine Revue d\u2019Histoire du protestantisme<\/a> (Magazine of the History of Protestantism)<\/b> -formerly called historical and literary bulletin of the French Protestant Society<\/i> -, to be found in Gallica<\/u><\/a> and major magazine databases.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With 100,000 volumes and manuscript plus iconographic holdings, the Biblioth\u00e8que du protestantisme fran\u00e7ais<\/u><\/a> (Library of French Protestantism<\/u>)<\/b> has become the main research centre on Protestantism in French, welcomes students as well as French and foreign researchers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The library is intended to receive papers from institutions, from private individuals and leading figures of French Protestantism, to preserve and highlight the documents. The Centre de g\u00e9n\u00e9alogie<\/u> <\/a>protestante (Centre for Protestant Genealogy)<\/u> of the SHPF has a similar aim.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The property policy of the SHPF also concerns museums<\/u><\/a>, situated in Protestant historical places, such as the mus\u00e9e du D\u00e9sert<\/u> in Mialet (Gard region) and the mus\u00e9e Jean Calvin<\/u> in Noyon (Oise region).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The SHPF along with the Eug\u00e8ne Bersier Foundation has created the Mus\u00e9e virtuel du protestantisme<\/a> (Virtual Museum of Protestantism<\/u>)<\/b>. It also co-hosts the European Network of Museums of Protestantism<\/u>.<\/span><\/p>\n
